UK vs US OnlyFans Agencies: Contracts, Tax, Currency and Time Zones Compared
Plenty of creators work with an agency based in another country, and the agency's location changes more than its accent. It affects which country's law governs the contract, which currency your invoices are in, whether VAT appears on them and when chat cover happens. This guide compares working with a UK agency and a US agency, for creators on either side of the Atlantic.
Editorial note: VANTA works with women creators in the UK, the US, Australia and worldwide, so we have an interest in this question; we've kept to points you can check for yourself. Tax figures are from HMRC and IRS guidance as of October 2026 and change over time. General information, not legal or tax advice: your own tax position depends on where you live, not where your agency is.
Does it matter whether your OnlyFans agency is in the UK or the US?
Less than you might think for the work itself, and more than you might think for the paperwork. OnlyFans pays your earnings to your own payout account wherever the agency is. What changes is the contract's governing law, the currency and tax treatment of the agency's invoices, and the hours its team is awake. Your own tax still follows where you live.
How do UK and US agencies compare?
| Working with a UK agency | Working with a US agency | |
|---|---|---|
| Contract law | Usually English and Welsh (or Scottish) law, courts in the UK | Usually the law of a named US state, courts or arbitration there |
| Invoice currency | Often pounds sterling | Usually US dollars |
| VAT on the agency's invoice | Possible if the agency is VAT-registered | Not UK VAT, though other rules can apply to cross-border services |
| Chat cover for UK fans' evenings | Same time zone | Their morning or afternoon, depending on the coast |
| Chat cover for US fans' evenings | Late night to early morning UK time | Same or nearby time zone |
| Your own tax | Follows where you live | Follows where you live |
Which country's law applies to the contract?
Whatever the contract says, in most cases. Look for a "governing law" clause and a "jurisdiction" or "disputes" clause. If you're in the UK and the contract names a US state's law and courts, resolving a dispute could mean dealing with a foreign legal system, often through arbitration. That isn't automatically bad, but it should be a choice you make knowingly.
Ask for the governing law and dispute process to be stated clearly. If you'd rather deal with disputes at home, ask whether the agency will agree to your country's law; some will. Our guide to OnlyFans agency disputes covers what to do when things go wrong.
How do currency and payouts work across borders?
OnlyFans shows earnings in US dollars, and how and when they're converted depends on your payout method and bank. The agency never needs to touch your payout: you're paid, then the agency invoices you. The cross-border question is the invoice. A US agency usually invoices in dollars; a UK agency often in pounds.
If the invoice currency differs from your bank's, check who bears the conversion cost and which exchange rate the commission is calculated at. Agree it in writing so the commission matches your own statement. See how long OnlyFans payouts take for the platform side.
What are the tax basics on each side?
Your tax follows where you're resident, not where the agency is based. The agency's location mainly affects whether its invoice includes VAT and how you record the commission as a business cost.
| UK-resident creator | US-resident creator | |
|---|---|---|
| How income is reported | Self Assessment with HMRC | Federal and state returns with the IRS and your state |
| Small-income allowance | £1,000 trading allowance | No equivalent allowance; self-employment tax applies from $400 of net earnings |
| Key deadlines | Register by 5 October after the tax year ends; file online by 31 January | Quarterly estimated payments if you expect to owe $1,000 or more; annual return |
| Extra taxes on self-employment | Class 4 National Insurance on profits above a threshold | Self-employment tax of 15.3% on net earnings, subject to limits |
| VAT or sales tax | VAT registration is required above the £90,000 threshold | No federal VAT |
| Agency commission | Usually an allowable business expense | Usually a deductible business expense |

How do time zones affect chat cover?
Fans spend when they're online, and many are online in the evening in their own time zone. If most of your fans are in the US and your agency is in the UK, evening cover for US fans falls in the UK's night. The reverse applies to a US agency serving UK fans. Neither is a problem if the agency staffs for it.
Ask any agency which hours its team covers, in your fans' time zones, and how it handles nights and weekends. Then check your own audience: OnlyFans' statistics show when your fans are active. See how fast you should reply on OnlyFans for why response time matters.
What should you check with an agency in another country?
- Governing law and how disputes are resolved
- Invoice currency, exchange rate and who pays conversion costs
- Whether the invoice includes VAT or any other tax
- The business name and address on the invoice, for your records
- Chat cover hours in your fans' time zones
- How data and logins are handled across borders
- Commission base (gross, net or net profit), notice period and minimum term, as with any agency
Frequently asked questions
Can a UK creator work with a US OnlyFans agency?
Yes. OnlyFans pays you directly wherever the agency is. Check the governing law, invoice currency, any tax on the invoice and chat cover hours before you sign. Your own tax still follows UK rules.
Do I pay tax where my OnlyFans agency is based?
Generally no. Your income tax follows where you're resident. The agency's location mainly affects whether its invoice carries VAT and how you record the commission as a business cost.
Do UK agencies charge VAT on commission?
A VAT-registered UK agency normally adds VAT to its invoices to UK creators. Ask before you sign whether quoted rates include or exclude VAT.
Is a US agency better for US fans?
Not automatically. What matters is whether the team covers your fans' active hours, whatever country it's in. Ask for chat cover hours in your fans' time zones.
