Does OnlyFans Send You a 1099? The 2026 Rules for US Creators
Every January, US creators ask the same question: is OnlyFans going to send me a 1099, and what do I do with it? The short version is that the form is a report, not the rule. Your tax depends on what you earned, whether or not a form arrives. And for 2026, the reporting threshold changed for the first time in decades.
Editorial note: Based on IRS guidance checked on 8 October 2026 and the OnlyFans Terms of Service. Tax rules change and depend on your circumstances. This is general information, not tax advice. Speak to a CPA or enrolled agent before you file.
Does OnlyFans send you a 1099?
Generally, yes, if you're a US creator and your earnings meet the IRS reporting threshold. OnlyFans has typically issued Form 1099-NEC (nonemployee compensation) to US creators. For payments made in 2026, the threshold for a 1099-NEC is $2,000 in a calendar year, up from $600 for payments made before 2026.
Forms are usually available by the end of January for the previous year. Check your OnlyFans account's tax or statements area and the email address on your account. If you've moved or changed details, make sure your W-9 information is current.
What is the $600 rule, and what changed for 2026?
The "$600 rule" was the long-standing threshold above which businesses had to report payments to non-employees on Form 1099-NEC. A 2025 federal law raised it to $2,000 for payments made after 31 December 2025, with inflation adjustments from 2027. It changes when a form is issued, not whether income is taxable.
| Payments made in | 1099-NEC reporting threshold | Is the income taxable below it? |
|---|---|---|
| 2025 and earlier | $600 | Yes |
| 2026 | $2,000 | Yes |
| 2027 onwards | $2,000, adjusted for inflation | Yes |
You may still see the $600 figure quoted online. It applies to forms for 2025 earnings, issued in early 2026.
Do you have to pay tax if you don't get a 1099?
Yes. All income is taxable whether or not you receive a form. If you earn below the 1099 threshold, or a form never arrives, you still report your OnlyFans income on your return. And if your net earnings from self-employment are $400 or more, you generally owe self-employment tax too.
Keep your own records from your OnlyFans statements rather than relying on the form. If the 1099 figure doesn't match your records, contact OnlyFans support and ask your tax professional how to handle the difference.
Is OnlyFans income 1099 or W-2?
OnlyFans creators are treated as independent contractors, not employees, so income is reported on a 1099 rather than a W-2. That means no tax is withheld from your payouts. You're responsible for income tax and self-employment tax, usually through quarterly estimated payments and your annual return.
In practice, that typically means reporting income and expenses on Schedule C and calculating self-employment tax on Schedule SE, which covers Social Security and Medicare at a combined rate of 15.3% on most net self-employment earnings. Your tax professional will confirm what applies to you.
Where do you find your OnlyFans 1099?
Look in your OnlyFans account settings for the tax forms or statements section, and check the email address linked to your account in late January. If you can't find it, contact OnlyFans support from your account email. Download and keep a copy, along with your full-year earnings statements, for your records.
Before you file, check:
- The name and taxpayer identification number on the form match your W-9.
- The amount matches your own records of earnings for the year.
- You know whether the figure is before or after any adjustments, such as refunds or chargebacks.
- Your tax professional has your full statements, not just the form.
What income does the 1099 show?
A 1099-NEC shows the total nonemployee compensation paid to you during the year. For OnlyFans creators, that reflects your creator earnings after OnlyFans' 20% fee, not the gross amount fans paid. Agency commission paid out of your earnings isn't removed from that figure; it's usually treated as a business expense instead.
That last point catches people out. If you work with an agency and receive the full payout before paying its invoice, the 1099 will show the higher figure. Keep the agency's invoices, because commission and other ordinary and necessary business costs are usually deductible. Our guide to OnlyFans tax write-offs covers this in more detail.
At VANTA, payouts go to the creator's own account and VANTA invoices the creator for its commission, which keeps the paper trail simple for your tax professional.
Do you need to pay estimated taxes on OnlyFans income?
Usually, if you expect to owe $1,000 or more in federal tax for the year after withholding and credits. Because nothing is withheld from OnlyFans payouts, many creators pay quarterly estimated taxes to the IRS. Missing them can lead to penalties, even if you pay everything when you file.
The usual federal due dates are around 15 April, 15 June, 15 September and 15 January, moving to the next business day when they fall on a weekend or holiday. Many states have their own estimated tax rules. See our guide to quarterly estimated taxes for OnlyFans creators.
What if your 1099 is wrong or missing?
Contact OnlyFans support first and ask for a corrected form if the name, taxpayer number or amount is wrong. Keep a copy of your request. If a corrected form doesn't arrive before you need to file, your tax professional can advise on reporting the correct income from your own records and documenting the difference.
Common reasons a figure looks wrong include earnings that were pending at year end, refunds or chargebacks deducted later, and payouts landing in January for December earnings. The form reports what was paid in the calendar year, which may not match what you earned on your statements month by month.
What if you're a UK or non-US creator?
Non-US creators don't normally receive a 1099. They complete a W-8BEN instead of a W-9 to confirm they aren't US taxpayers, and pay tax where they live. UK creators report OnlyFans income to HMRC through Self Assessment. Our plain-English guide to OnlyFans tax in the UK explains how.
Frequently asked questions
When does OnlyFans send 1099s?
Businesses must generally furnish Forms 1099-NEC to recipients by 31 January for the previous year. Expect yours in late January, and check your account and email before contacting support.
Do I get a 1099 if I made less than $2,000 on OnlyFans?
For payments made in 2026, a 1099-NEC isn't required below $2,000, though a platform may still issue one. Either way, you must report all your income. For 2025 earnings, the threshold was $600.
Does OnlyFans report my income to the IRS?
When OnlyFans issues you a Form 1099-NEC, it also files that information with the IRS. That's why the income on your return should match. Report all income even if no form is filed.
Can I deduct my agency's commission?
Agency commission is usually a deductible business expense for self-employed creators, provided it's ordinary and necessary for your business. Keep the invoices and ask your tax professional how to report it.
Does VANTA give tax advice?
No. VANTA isn't a tax adviser. We invoice creators for our commission so you have clear records, and we recommend speaking to a CPA or enrolled agent about your own situation.
