How to Fill Out the OnlyFans W-9 (US Creators)
When US creators set up payouts, OnlyFans asks for tax information on a Form W-9. It's a short form, but mistakes can delay payouts or cause problems with your tax forms later. This guide explains each part in plain English. It's general information, so check with a tax professional if your situation is unusual.
Editorial note: Based on IRS Form W-9 (Rev. March 2024) and its instructions, checked on 8 October 2026. OnlyFans may collect this information through an online version of the form. This is general information, not tax advice. Speak to a CPA or enrolled agent about your situation.
How do you fill out the OnlyFans W-9?
Enter your legal name as shown on your tax return, add a business name only if you have one, pick your federal tax classification (most creators are individuals or sole proprietors), enter your address and your SSN or EIN, then sign the certification. The details must match IRS records.
What is a W-9 and why does OnlyFans ask for it?
Form W-9 gives a payer your correct name and taxpayer identification number (TIN) so it can report payments to the IRS. OnlyFans uses it to issue tax forms such as a 1099 where required. It also confirms you're a US person and not subject to backup withholding.
What goes on each line of the W-9?
Line 1 is your name as shown on your income tax return. Line 2 is a business or "doing business as" name, if different. Line 3a is your tax classification. Then come exemptions (most creators leave these blank), your address, and Part I for your SSN or EIN.
| Part | What to enter | Common choice for creators |
|---|---|---|
| Line 1 | Name as shown on your tax return | Your legal name |
| Line 2 | Business name or DBA, if any | Blank, or your registered business name |
| Line 3a | Federal tax classification | Individual/sole proprietor |
| Line 4 | Exemption codes | Usually blank |
| Lines 5–6 | Address | Your mailing address |
| Part I | SSN or EIN | SSN, or EIN if you have one |
| Part II | Signature and date | Sign to certify |
Should you use your stage name on the W-9?
No. Line 1 must be your legal name as shown on your tax return. A stage name isn't a legal business name unless you've registered it, for example as a DBA. Using a stage name can cause a mismatch with IRS records. Your W-9 isn't shown to fans.

Should you use your SSN or an EIN?
IRS instructions say a sole proprietor with an EIN may enter either their SSN or EIN. Some creators get a free EIN from the IRS so they don't have to give their SSN to payers. If you have an LLC or corporation, follow the rules for your entity type.
What if you have an LLC?
A single-member LLC that's a disregarded entity puts the owner's name on line 1 and the LLC's name on line 2, and checks the owner's classification. An LLC taxed as a corporation or partnership checks the LLC box and enters the right letter. See should you form an LLC for OnlyFans?.
What are common W-9 mistakes?
The most common are using a stage name on line 1, a name that doesn't match the SSN or EIN, choosing the wrong classification, typing the number wrong, and forgetting to sign. Mismatches can lead to backup withholding, where 24% of payments is withheld until it's fixed.
W-9 checklist before submitting:
- Line 1 matches the name on your tax return exactly.
- Line 2 is blank unless you have a business name.
- The right box on line 3a is ticked.
- SSN or EIN typed carefully and matches the name.
- Address is current.
- Certification signed and dated.
What if the W-9 isn't working on OnlyFans?
If the form won't submit, check that every required field is filled, that the name and number match, and that there are no extra spaces or special characters. Try another browser or device. If it still fails, contact OnlyFans support. Don't enter different details just to get it through.
What if you're not a US person?
Non-US creators don't fill in a W-9. Individuals usually complete a W-8BEN instead, which confirms foreign status for US tax purposes. Your own country's tax rules then apply to your OnlyFans income, so check what you need to report where you live. UK creators should see our guide to OnlyFans tax in the UK.
What happens after you submit the W-9?
OnlyFans uses the information to report payments to the IRS and issue any required tax forms. You still need to report all your OnlyFans income on your tax return, whether or not you receive a 1099. Keep your own records of what you were paid. See does OnlyFans send a 1099?.
