OnlyFans Fees, Payouts and Rules: What Creators Should Know
Subscriptions, paid messages, tips and a 20% platform fee: the headline numbers on OnlyFans are simple, but what you keep depends on deductions, timing and the rules you have to follow. This guide uses OnlyFans' published terms, so you can plan on facts rather than rumours.
Editorial note: Based on the OnlyFans Terms of Service and the operator's annual accounts, all checked on 8 October 2026, plus the VANTA team's experience. Platform terms change often, so check them before you decide. We have no commercial relationship with OnlyFans.
What does OnlyFans take from creator earnings?
Creators earn from subscriptions, pay-per-view messages, tips and customs. OnlyFans' terms state a 20% platform fee, so creators receive 80% of fan payments before any other costs. Payments are made in US dollars, and a minimum payout requirement applies.
Remember to look at the money you keep after all costs, not just the headline fee. Refunds and chargebacks are deducted from your share, and bank and currency fees can matter too. If you work with an agency, its commission comes on top; ours is explained in our commission guide.
Illustrative example: a fan spends $100.
| OnlyFans | |
|---|---|
| Fan payment | $100 |
| Platform fee (20%) | $20 |
| Your earnings before any other costs | $80 |
| Then deducted, if applicable | Refunds and chargebacks; bank and currency fees |
This shows how the fee works, not what any account will earn.
How long do OnlyFans payouts take?
OnlyFans doesn't state pending periods in its terms; creators typically report around a week. In practice, timing depends on verification status, payout method and risk checks.

How big is the OnlyFans audience?
Very large. The operator's accounts for the year to 30 November 2025 reported 437.1 million registered fan accounts, around 132 million of them active, and $7.84 billion in fan payments. A bigger audience helps with recognition, but most fans still arrive from your own promotion.
Fans don't usually stumble across you. Traffic comes from Reddit, X, Instagram, TikTok and other channels you control. Our guide to promoting OnlyFans on Reddit covers one of the biggest sources.
What are the rules on AI-generated content?
OnlyFans allows AI-generated content only if it complies with its terms and is clearly labelled, for example with #ai or #AIGenerated. If your account is AI-led, read the current rules closely.
Whatever the platform, unlabelled AI content and AI images of real people without consent are where the serious risks lie, legally and for your account.
What do the content and verification rules require?
Creators must verify their identity and age, and must hold proof of age and documented consent for anyone else who appears in their content. Content involving anyone under 18 and other illegal material is banned.
OnlyFans' co-authored content rules require other people in your content to be tagged creators or verified adults who have given written, informed consent.
What should you check before you start?
A quick checklist:
- You understand the 20% fee and what is deducted on top of it.
- You know how and when you will be paid, including your payout method.
- Your content follows the current rules, including AI labelling.
- Anyone who appears in your content has given written, informed consent.
- Any agency commission is written down and calculated on a clear base.
If you work with an agency, check whether your contract includes an exclusivity clause before you agree to anything. At VANTA, creators keep ownership of their accounts and content.
